The Qirat’ul Qur’an Competition 2008 is the 10th annual qira’at competition hosted by McMaster University Muslim Students Association with the sole purpose of glorifying the Holy Qur’an. QQC 2008 will be held in a Hamilton downtown theatre and promises multi-level competitions, over 50 competitors, a vibrant food and bazaar area, and hundreds in audience and volunteers.
There will be two aspects to the competition this year. The juniors competition will be composed of various Islamic schools that compete to have the best tajweed. Children attending Islamic Schools are encouraged to come to the Qirat’ul Qur’an Competition. This event regularly draws several Islamic School students from a variety of different Islamic School programs. Come attend this year’s Qirat’ul Qur’an Competition, and experience what these students have been learning!
The Seniors competition caters more to university students and involves 7 MSAs competing to have the best tajweed and memorization skills. This part of the competition provides one of the best recitation exhibitations inshAllah from brothers at the following universities: McMaster, University of Toronto – St. George, University of Toronto – Mississauga, University of Toronto – Scarborough, Ryerson, York and Western.
“On January 28-Feburary 1, McMaster MSA is holding Islam Awareness Week which includes, 3 lectures (check the attached poster) as well as a dawah booth every day in the Student centre. The lectures are beneficial for both Muslims and Non-Muslims, and address controversial topics facing the Muslim community today. See you there insha’Allah!”
The Hamilton Muslim Basketball Association (HMBA) is an organized basketball league which caters to the Islamic community of Hamilton and the surrounding area. The league was created in the summer of 2005 and is now in full effect, show casing Hamilton’s Muslim basketball talent. HMBA’s mission statement is to provide a means for Muslim brothers to interact, communicate and learn within an Islamic environment. The league is a way for new brothers to meet other Muslim brothers. The league, takes pride in advocating Islamic principles and brotherhood.
Isha’a is prayed in Jama’a, a dua’a is made before each game with each team, there is no tolerance for rude or inappropriate behavior, and most importantly, it provides an outlet for Muslim youth to gather on a Saturday night.
The league provides a quality rental facility, certified officials who officiate every game, uniforms and awards (both team and players for contributions).
To continue to run the HMBA we need community support to help off set the cost to the students who are participating. Currently, we cannot continue to run this high quality league through player registration only. A tax receipt will be issued for donations more than $50.00.Please help in any way you can. If you cannot help financially then please make dua’a for continued and sustainable success.
Please visit www.mahvoice.ca/hmba or contact Nedal Haddad @ 905.648.1822 to donate or ask for further information.
Wa alaikum as salam

This little article is announcing that we have a “Kids” page in our site.
Internet is the one of the most dangerous places to be and easy to reach from your home environment for our youth and for all. Basically we set up this page for the parents to direct their children if they have to. We say, “If you have to” because the best solution is for our youth is keeping our children away from the danger of the Internet world.
I am a Muslim Girl
You look at me like I’m a pest
Just because of the way I’ve dressed
I am a Muslim Girl
I like the way I’ve dressed
And it shouldn’t mean
I’m different from the rest
I am a Muslim Girl
You judge me from the clothing outside
Without looking at me deep inside
I am a Muslim Girl
I might look a little shy
But I really don’t know why
Because I walk with dignity
And when I talk I do not lie
I am a Muslim Girl
Not all of me you’ll see
But that’s the choice I made freely
I am a Muslim Girl
While you talk to me
You don’t need to slow down
Because I can speak English
Et un petit peu de francais aussi
And four more languages that you might not recognize
I am a Muslim Girl
I’m a girl just like you and I also go to school
So don’t refuse me from being your friend
Without actually knowing me for who I am
I am a Muslim Girl
The problem is clear, but what can we do to protect and save our youth from dangers such as these? One possible solution which parents can start with is to make sure their computer is set up in an open area of the home. Children should access it in their parents’ presence and for limited time periods. Parents must establish open communication with their children and educate them, as well as themselves, about the dangers of the Internet. One can take it even further and contact the local FBI community service or juvenile division, the prosecutor’s office, and the local board of education to present awareness workshops at their child’s school. People from these organizations would be more than willing to come in and assist you.
