From the Vegetarian Society website you provided. http://www.vegsoc.org/news/2007/mars.html The following can be located half way down the page under the title, “Mars Products not Veggie” in a blue/grey shaded box.
“Mars products are very popular with young people and many will be shocked to discover that their manufacture now relies on the extraction of rennet from the stomach lining of young calves” <– it says CALVES not pigs therefore it is not pork. Of course the calf would not be killed according to Shariah.
Masterfoods wanted to explore its ingredients with animal fat ect. retracted their ideas a few months later. This news is old because in their statement they rec. over 6000 complaints. Attached is an article which clearly illustrates that they dont use animal extracts but eggs as one of their main ingredients, which may not be considered vegetarian but nonetheless its not haram.
