Judo Manitoba gave a bureaucratic boot Saturday to a little girl who just wanted to participate in a tournament.

Eleven-year-old Hajar Outbih was all prepared to fight her match at a Judo tournament in Winnipeg. Instead, the little girl left the mat in tears.

Hajar was told at the last minute that she had to take off her religiously-based head scarf known as a hijab. She’s a Muslim, so she refused. Read All

To: Mr. Dave Minuk:
about the panning of muslim 11 years old girl from participating in the Judo tournament in Manitoba:
Other measures could have been taken to protect the organisers against any harm or claims ,parents of Hajar may raise against them rather than causing such harmful feelings a mong muslims all over Canada.
1.Such views could have been discussed in early stage ( training period)when Hajar joined the judo team rather than when participating in the tournament.
2. Have her parents signing a paper releasing you and other organisers from any future responsibility which may arise as a result of hajar participation or even start training.
3. Such decision should be discussed with parents in early stages.

Your decision is unjustifiable and alerts hate and discrimination against your fello muslim canadians.
Would be a wise step to withdraw such unjust decision , extend an apology to Hagar, her parents and other muslims in Manitoba.

I teach judo, and I can tell you that there are reasons against wearing a hijab. It is very dangerous. You grip and throw, and the cloth around her neck could very easily strangle her. It could easily fall over her eyes making it unable for her to see.

There are rules for a reason. This is NOT religious discrimination, and I’m very angry that its being portrayed that way.

There was a Jewish man who wanted to wear a yarmulka in judo. He had to use bobby pins to keep it on. However, anything hard or metalic is prohibited in judo for SAFETY reasons. He had a choice, as did she, of removing it or competing. Like her, he chose to withdraw.

Further, certain types of choking techniques are LEGAL in judo aged 13 and above. It would be unfair for anyone to wear that kind of garb, because the other person couldn’t get their fingers near the neck in order to execute the technique.

There are some religions (such as in the Orthodox Jewish religion) that prohibit women from wearing pants. Should women be allowed to wear a skirt in judo?

I mean…. come on! You know the rules before you join. If you don’t like it or can’t comply, find something else to do!!!!
